Crazy Symposium: AI, Singularity, and Art

Is technological singularity—a point where AI surpasses human intelligence—closer than we think? What will it mean for art, society, and our identity as creators? These were some of the thought-provoking questions that launched our recent art forum and set the stage for an engaging exploration of AI’s role in shaping our world.

Are we controlling this rapid technological progress, or is it controlling us? As we reflected on human history's accelerating pace of advancements, artists and critics gathered over tea to discuss whether AI is a collaborative force expanding creative boundaries or a disruptive competitor challenging the essence of authorship.

The dialogue extended to the implications of this swift progress: Can we adapt to this change as quickly as it comes? David Sepkoski’s ideas on catastrophic thinking reminded us to not only ponder future possibilities but also address immediate issues like environmental and social challenges. Meanwhile, Noam Chomsky’s critique of current AI reminded participants that despite its capabilities, AI still lacks genuine human understanding and ethical reasoning.
